Free_Elastic: Independent Pitch/Speed Control in Max

Recently an article on the Create Digital Music blog featured “elastic~”, an object which allows independent pitch/speed control of samples within Max 5.  Surprisingly, the object sells for $20GBP, despite the fact that similar functionality can be achieved with Max-only objects.

So I took 15 minutes and made a simple patch and video demonstrating what I’m calling “Free_Elastic”.   This Max patch uses high-quality, FFT pitch shifting and is based on the standard groove~ object.  It allows for much more control and customization (fft size, overlap, etc.) than “elastic~” does, and it’s FREE!

Music = Don’t Stop – Scott Tolinski

Download the patches here.

Update: I’ll try to get up a Max 4 version of the patch soon and perhaps an update that includes granular-based stretching and pitch-shifting if people are interested.

My Dear Disco – Dancethink LP

My Dear Disco’s first full-length album is finally out (as of their sold-out CD release on Saturday October 11th @ The Blind Pig)!  I am extremely grateful to have been involved with the recording and production of the album, which is so good and grooves so hard, it actually hurts me to listen to.  Specific information about my contributions is available here.

News And Promotion For People I Like

This summer I’ve had the pleasure of working and recording with some awesome people:

My Dear Disco [Dancethink, Pop] plans to release their full-length album in the coming months, which I did a lot of work on (Recording [bass], Editing [drums], Mastering and Post-Production.) Check them out if you haven’t already.

Rob Moran [Acoustic, Alternative] has been working on his debut album with me in the past few months. The full-length album is scheduled for an early fall release date.

Inkblot [Electroacoustic, Noise, Circus] has begun work with me on what is to be their sophomore release. I recently played bass with the band for a number of interesting shows in the Ann Arbor area. Inkblot plans a local CD release early in October.
